Green City Finance: Common avenues and Concrete Approaches

13 Nov,

Cities consume over two-thirds of the world’s energy and account for more than 70% of global CO2 emissions. Rapid urbanisation across the globe is exacerbating the challenges cities face in providing services for growing populations while also working to diminish the causes of climate change and protect themselves from its impacts. At the heart of these overlapping challenges is a funding gap and a finance innovation challenge; municipalities will need significant investments to improve the efficiency, climate-impacts and climate-resilience of their infrastructure, in particular in the transport, water, waste, and building sectors.

This side event will engage key Nordic cities that face similar challenges and facilitate discussion, aiming to identify common avenues and concrete approaches for replicating green finance initiatives and approaches in other Nordic cities.
