City Climate Finance Training (CCFT)

Strengthening the ability of local decision makers to tackle climate change

Supporting climate projects in developing countries

Climate change is a critical issue for urban authorities in developing countries. However, it is often challenging to find financing for key infrastructure projects that will pave the way for environmentally sustainable growth.
City Climate Finance Training (CCFT) is a training program for subnational political and technical representatives from developing countries. It strengthens the capacity of local stakeholders to formalize resilient urban climate projects (lighting, transport, waste, etc.) and mobilize the required financial resources for their implementation.
CCFT has four key objectives:

  • Raise climate change awareness
  • Explain the major issues in terms of climate finance
  • Present existing funding strategies/tools
  • Explore how to access funding and the criteria used for project selection

Real-life inspiration

CCFT provides the tools to create the right funding environment for climate change projects. The exchange helps connect players, accelerating the implementation of resilient, low-carbon projects.
CCFT follows a three-step approach:

1. An outreach conference on the impact of climate change for subnational governments in targeted countries, with a focus on inspirational practices and solutions implemented in other territories in Africa and Europe

2. A two-day capacity building workshop for local actors involved in the development of viable projects (economic, social and environmental sustainability, the development of funding strategies and the identification of available resources such as donors, private partners, etc.)

3. A sharing forum to foster dialogue between different stakeholders (mayors, technical and financial partners and investors) who will present resilient projects by local governments, as well as technical and financial solutions offered by partners

The program is based on a field approach that illustrates theoretical concepts, enabling cities to effectively fight climate change.
