WASTE MITI²

From ideas to implementation: the mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the waste sector

Getting GHG emissions under control

Waste management operators, as well as their municipal and industrial clients, are under increasing pressure to implement measures to address climate change. The project WASTE MITI² aims to increase the awareness of waste management operators, local government authorities and relevant financial institutions/funding agencies regarding opportunities for greenhouse gas mitigation. The project design encourages the adoption of an integrated waste management approach, including how the waste is treated and managed in both a local and broader context, paving the way towards zero GHG waste management.

The project is led by Suez and implemented jointly with TNO, ARIA Technolgies, LSCE, and The Gold Standard.

A path to the future: effective waste management

The WASTE MITI² project is designed to address current barriers to implementation of climate-friendly waste management practices by focusing on “capacity building” through GHG mitigation demonstration projects and the creation of tailored MRV environments for specific waste management activities, including:

  • Waste collection
  • Landfill operations
  • Composting operations (2017 focus)
  • Incineration or waste-to-energy
  • Wastewater collection

The project framework is structured to improve the identification, demonstration and assessment of specific GHG mitigation strategies.

A dedicated MRV “dashboard” will be tailored for the individual waste management activities and configured to highlight (or minimize) specific KPIs to deliver advanced management tools for waste management stakeholders.

The WASTE MITI² project will focus on city-level impacts and reporting requirements within various geographies, while also considering the possible relevance for NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Activities) status.

We’re welcoming:

  • Municipal partners – city agencies
  • Operators of plant (landfill, wastewater, sewage network, industrial waste water…)
  • Climate financing institutions

She started her career in Suez group as R&D engineer in wastewater, sludge, air treatment and biogas valorization. She integrated the Technical Direction as an expert on composting, methanisation and energy recovery. Then she evolved as a design process engineer in the waste sector. Knowing the different sectors of Suez activities, she was promoted as an expert in Suez Advanced solutions. She is now developing new business solutions for air quality improvement.
